One-lane traffic to start soon on Highway 55 near Smiths Ferry, ID

Construction hours on Highway 55 near Smiths Ferry are changing with the season.  Starting Tuesday, May 31, SH-55 will be reduced to one-lane alternating traffic Monday through noon on Friday. From Friday afternoon through Sunday, the road will open to two-way traffic. This will stay in effect until early September.  For Memorial Day weekend, the highway will be fully open from May 27 to May 30. The Smiths Ferry project area has had three rockslides. In January 2021, two rockslides occurred and in January 2022, another rockslide closed the road. [McCall City Council awards library contract despite funding gap] Since 2020, crews have been working to improve safety by widening the road, adding guardrails, and straightening the curvy stretch of highway.
