Construction has passed the halfway mark on 1841 Broadway, a 25-story residential tower on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by INC Architecture & Design with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Global Holdings Management Group, the 281-foot-tall structure will yield 180,813 square feet with 173 market-rate and affordable housing units, as well as 11,741 square feet of retail space on the first two levels. Pavarini McGovern is the general contractor and DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant for the property, which is located at the corner of Broadway and West 60th Street, just north of Columbus Circle and the southwest corner of Central Park.

The reinforced concrete superstructure has climbed steadily since our last update in late March, when work had just passed the height of the podium levels. Now the tower is more than halfway to its parapet, and could possibly top out by this summer.

Work has also begun on the dark brick façade, which is being installed along the wide southern elevation, as well as the metal stud framework and insulation behind the construction netting assembly. The industrial-style windows will follow suit.

The following shots from above show the scale of the project and its use of its plot at the northern end of Columbus Circle. Residents will certainly have good views of the surrounding neighborhood, Central Park, and Billionaires’ Row.

The renderings show the massing with distinctive curved corners on the eastern end, the effect of which is enhanced by the horizontal bands of brick separating the levels of windows. Vertically pleated metal paneling is forms the remainder of the grid between the floor-to-ceiling glass. The retail space has high ceilings and much taller windows covering the first two floors of the multi-story podium. YIMBY last reported that residential amenities and mechanical space will sit within the sub-cellar and cellar levels of the property.

1841 Broadway is slated to be finished in the fall of 2023, as noted on the construction board.

The rounded corners already look very nice.

Horizontal lines that separated the windows, brick facade always beautiful on the structure. At right angles to the vertical, and rounded corners so groups of prominent design: Thanks to Michael Young.

That’s a lot of studs.

The ‘barely’ upper west side..nice building.

I get it. But I guess W59-W110th is “UWS”.

The determining factor on whether a development is on the Upper West Side is by how much people complain about it.

haha Someone with a sense of humor. (Columbus Circle is the beginning of the Upper West Side – Lincoln Center area is the Upper West Side — all the way to Morningside Heights/Columbia….so yes, W59 to W110)

This one is going to be really beautiful. A nice addition to Upper Broadway.
