SEATAC, Wash. — Northbound Interstate 5 lanes in SeaTac have reopened after they were closed for several hours as crews repaired a guardrail following a crash early Wednesday morning.

The repairs were required after a semi-truck struck the guardrail on the right side of the roadway shortly before 5 a.m. The closure was lifted just after 2:30 p.m.

The crash had closed the right lanes, which caused a significant backup. By 7:35 a.m., the backup was 6 miles long, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Roughly 25 sections of the rail, including 100 posts, were damaged and had to be fixed.

Here's a picture of the collision from this morning. The guardrail you see is currently under repair now, which requires the two right lanes of northbound I-5 to be closed. Please drive slowly and cautiously through our work zone. pic.twitter.com/66P5ZliHJt
