The rate at which street signs are being stolen in Door County is on the rise.
According to the Door County Highway Commissioner, Thad Ash, there are no specific signs that are being targeted.
They have seen stop signs, stop ahead signs, and dead-end signs stollen, but he did say that in the north-central part of the county, the main focus is on road name signs.
In some cases, the thief or thieves took not only the metal sign but also the post on which it was posted.
This is a major issue, not only because each sign costs hundreds of dollars, but also because the removal of signs could end up causing a crash, which could be deadly.
Anyone with any information on who may be taking these signs is encouraged to call the Door County Sheriff’s Office at 920-746-2400.
