A 46-year-old Yacolt man was killed after crashing into a guardrail and a concrete barrier on northbound Interstate 5 in South Thurston County on Thursday.

The man, who was identified Friday by the Washington State Patrol (WSP) as Jason A. Garcia, was reportedly driving a white 2016 Ford Transit van northbound on I-5 when, just north of mile marker 90, the car left the roadway on the right side and struck a guardrail, according to WSP. The car then crossed all lanes and struck a concrete barrier on the left shoulder, ultimately coming to rest partially in the left lane.

Garcia was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to WSP.

Law enforcement received the first report of the incident at 11:50 p.m. on June 16.

Garcia was declared dead at the scene.

The roadway was partially blocked for two hours and 10 minutes as a result of the crash, according to WSP.

The cause of the crash is under investigation but investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved, according to WSP.
