SARATOGA COUNTY – Roadwork at four sites in Saratoga County originally not on the docket for this year will now be completed this summer, county officials announced this week.

The county will use $3,549,100 in federal funding from the American Rescue Act to complete four highway rehabilitation projects totaling 7.3 miles in the towns of Clifton Park, Corinth, Greenfield and Moreau. Those projects were identified by the county’s Department of Public Works.

“Basically what we did was pull forward projects slated for 2023 into 2022. The good thing about this whole process is not only does it pull forward those projects that will be constructed earlier than originally planned, but then that will allow us to pull multiple projects into 2023,” said Phil Barrett, chair of the Saratoga County Public Works Committee and Clifton Park supervisor. “It will have a positive cascading effect over multiple years.”

Barrett did not have details on which projects could be moved up to next year.

“It’s important that the county continue to prioritize infrastructure and road construction,” Barrett said. “So if we maintain our normal large amount of funding for infrastructure and road construction, we’ll be able to move projects from those out-years into earlier timeframes.”

In a news release, Saratoga County provided the following details about the 2022 projects:

Reconstruction of approximately 2.48 miles of CR 91 – Grooms Road, from Nott Rd to Miller Road. The work includes light ditching and a new paving course consisting of a new 1 ½” asphalt overlay. New striping and shoulder backup. Prep work, including ditching, has begun. Paving and striping is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

Reconstruction of approximately 2.90 miles of CR 24 – Palmer Road, from the Corinth Village line to CR 25. The work includes light ditching, drainage upgrades, Hot In-Place Asphalt Recycling, a new 1 ½” asphalt overlay, striping and shoulder backup. This project is scheduled to begin in July and be completed in August 2022.

Reconstruction of approximately 1.78 miles of CR 19 – North Greenfield Road, from State Route 9N to Porters Corners. The work includes full-depth reclamation of the roadway for an upgraded road base, 3” of a new asphalt binder course and topped with a 1 ½” asphalt top course. New striping and shoulder back up will also be performed. This Project is scheduled to begin in June and be completed in July 2022.

Reconstruction of approximately 0.76 miles of CR 29 – West River Road, from State Route 197 to Morrison Farm. The work includes full-depth reclamation of the roadway for an upgraded road base, 3” of a new asphalt binder course and topped with a 1 ½” asphalt top course. New striping, shoulder back up and guide rail improvements will also be performed. This Project is scheduled to begin in August and be completed in September 2022.

Saratoga County’s DPW maintains 365 miles of roadway and 105 bridges. The DPW also maintains the county’s 787 acres of government complexes, which include 22 buildings to ensure a safe, quality work environment for employees and residents who utilize county services. Additionally, the DPW is responsible for oversight of the County Recycling Program and County Airport.
