One person was killed in an early morning single-vehicle rollover crash Thursday on Interstate 80 in west Reno, the latest in a string of fatalities on Northern Nevada highways this month.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the driver, who was the sole occupant of a black GM pickup, was heading eastbound at roughly 3:30 a.m. on I-80 near the West McCarran Boulevard on-ramp when the vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled down an embankment.
The person, whose identity was withheld Thursday morning pending next-of-kin notification, was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The on-ramp was partially blocked until shortly after 7 a.m., after which Nevada Department of Transportation crews spent roughly two hours repairing the guardrail. According to NHP, the highway was fully reopened at roughly 9:15 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
NHP also released preliminary investigation details Wednesday of a fatal rollover crash that occurred Friday morning in Carson City on Interstate 580 at the northbound College Parkway off-ramp.
Michael Patrick Cobb, 21, of Dayton, the driver and sole occupant of a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup, was heading northbound at roughly 4:56 a.m. in the No. 2 travel lane when he struck a metal paddle marker and continued north before striking the guardrail.
The vehicle overturned and Cobb, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Wednesday's statement.
NHP previously reported that speed was a factor in crash, though impairment was not suspected.
The crash remains under investigation; anyone with any information is asked to email ncwmirt@dps.state.nv.us and reference Case No. 220501313.
NHP also released more details this week about three previously reported fatal crashes – including two motorcycle crashes on Geiger Grade – that occurred within an hour span on May 15.
Meanwhile, NHP continues to investigate several crashes from earlier in the month on regional highways, including five that occurred May 4-8 and several more that happened on April 30 and May 1.
