Contractors will install new guardrails on the City Walk pedestrian bridge across N.C. 127 in Hickory starting Friday (August 12). This work will require the closure of Main Avenue NE, from Second Street NE to First Avenue NE, from 7 a.m. Friday, August 12, through 6 a.m. Friday, August 19. The sidewalks on the Main Avenue NE bridge will be closed to pedestrian access over the weekend, but should be reopened on Monday (August 15).

Additionally, N.C. 127 will be closed this weekend between First Avenue SE and First Avenue NE from 6 p.m. Friday, August 12, through 6 a.m. Monday, August 15, due to this repair work. Detour routes for the Main Avenue NE and N.C. 127 road closures will be established and clearly marked. Drivers should use Fourth Street NW/SW and the one-way pairs to navigate around the N.C. 127 closure.

Contractors will return to replace the lighted handrails along the pedestrian bridge at a later date yet to be determined. After all work is completed, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will inspect the pedestrian bridge before it is reopened.
