The Ballard, Fremont, and University bridges will be closed for a few minutes periodically throughout Sunday as Seattle Department of Transportation crews spray cold water to protect the bridges from high temperatures, SDOT said.
According to SDOT, high temperatures can cause problems for the bridges’ opening and closing functions.
During last summer’s record-breaking heat wave, the bridges closed for 10 minutes at a time as cooling trucks sprayed them down.
Last year, SDOT said it added a small amount of vitamin C to neutralize the chlorine in the potable water, making it safe for the environment.
