PLANS to install an electrical substation on land being developed for a new bus depot have been approved.

The scheme for the council-owned site, off Dallam Lane, came before the development management committee at its meeting on Wednesday.

It proposed the installation of one electrical substation, brickwork housings, concrete foundations, and associated plant.

The application was approved subject to conditions, as recommended.

The application site falls within the grounds of a site which is currently being developed to deliver a new depot for Warrington’s Own Buses.

The scheme comprises the installation of an electricity substation measuring 7.4m by 4.3m.

A report to the committee said: “This proposal relates to additional infrastructure which is required to complement the redevelopment of the site for the purposes of providing a new depot for Warrington’s Own Buses.

“Planning permission was granted in 2019 for this and development has now commenced.

“The documentation with this current application states that the substation is required to support the development of the neighbouring bus depot and the electrification of the associated bus fleet.

“The substation is required in order to allow for an adequate and stable supply of electricity to the site in order to support its redevelopment.

“Substations are forms of infrastructure not uncommon in the urban environment and its installation is acceptable in principle.”
