MYRTLE BEACH — A Myrtle Beach hotel recently opened a $3 million, 9,800-square-foot waterpark to add to one of its many Ocean Boulevard amenities.

H2oasis Waterpark, located across the street from the 500-unit Landmark Resort at 15th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach, features a collection of water slides and other family-friendly features.

“This is a momentous addition to our resort,” said Kelly Simmons, Vacation Myrtle Beach marketing director. “We always want to provide our guests with a unique, fun, and enjoyable vacation experience. Adding a new waterpark to their Myrtle Beach vacation was the perfect way to do this.”

The waterpark features three colorful waterslides standing at 40 feet with 32-inch diameter enclosed tubes that have 396 gallons of water flowing down every minute.

“These slides will be both fun and thrilling for guests to enjoy,” Simmons said. “It’s such a unique amenity to have at a Myrtle Beach resort, and we are so excited to offer this to our visitors.”

There is a jungled-themed aquatic play zone for kids, with the big draw being a four-foot-tall lion slide surrounded by interactive water jets, parrots, dump buckets and a waterfall mushroom fountain.

“We know the family-friendly waterpark will be immensely popular among our Landmark Resort guests and we are excited to see their smiles and the joy on their faces after they ride down the slides for the first time,” Simmons said.

Landmark Resort’s waterpark will be open seasonally through Oct. 23. The resort also offers vacationers 13 additional water features including an indoor pool complex, two 300-foot-long lazy river rides, an outdoor pool and six hot tubs.

A Market Common pastry shop is scheduled to close on Sept. 14 after nearly a year in business off of Hackler Street in Myrtle Beach.

Café Dua, named after one of the owners’ daughters, featured a menu of French-inspired pastries paired with champagne and coffee. The owners recently announced that they sold the building to a friend and agreed to close the business in the deal.

“We hope you will join us for a coffee, champagne or pastry over the next few weeks, and if anyone has any outstanding gift cards, please use them before that date,” a Facebook post read. “Thanks again to all of our supporters since day one.

“We'll continue to see you around the neighborhood.”

South Carolina-based Mashburn Construction recently completed the ground-up build of The Hangout, a new restaurant located in Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach.

Mashburn, with a downtown Myrtle Beach office, collaborated with Burroughs & Chapin, LS3P Architects and local artists to complete the 40,000-square-foot space.

“The Hangout has been a marquee project for our Myrtle Beach location over the last year,” said Richard Kinard, executive vice president of Mashburn Construction. “We are grateful to have completed another wonderful project with Burroughs & Chapin, a mainstay of consistent investment into economic growth on the coast.

“Our project team creatively navigated multiple challenges to successfully complete this notable development.”

The two-story, main building was constructed utilizing a structural steel frame with metal decking and metal stud infill. On the first floor of the building is the main dining area, commercial kitchen, retail space, a stage and overhead doors that connect the indoors to the outdoor patio. The second floor has a DJ booth and soundboard.

Three additional buildings surround the main building housing a speed bar, another stage and an arcade.

Mashburn Construction also has offices in Charleston, Greenville and Columbia.
