A motorcyclist crashed into a guardrail along Lee Highway (Route 211) early Thursday after being pursued by a deputy with the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, according to Sgt. William Kemper, public information officer with the FCSO.

Kemper said the motorcyclist, identified as Wendall Howard Jr., 36, of Manassas, crashed into a guardrail at approximately 1:45 a.m. while being pursued at a high rate of speed by Deputy Cash.

According to a news release, Cash had attempted a traffic stop on Howard for a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to stop and continued north on Lee Highway (Route 29) at a high rate of speed. Cash continued following the motorcyclist into the town of Warrenton and turned onto Lee Highway. Howard crashed soon after.

Cash rendered medical aid until emergency medical services arrived on scene. Howard was transferred to the hospital, where he was admitted for injuries.

Kemper said charges against Howard are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
